Old School

Saturday morning cartoons, before sun cracks the Eastern horizon,
motivated me to wake my 10-year old ass up
from the comfort of slumber I shared
with Scooby Doo's quilted joy and warmth,
and become the stealth expert to prevent a soon-to-be
confrontation over the remote against those who bore me and
demand I remain aloof to that enjoyment called Channel 7
for I would inherit nothing to enhance my life.

This weekly ritual found a David vs. Goliath match,
a son vs. a mother for Operation Remote Control.
Underestimating his intelligence, mother thought
the remote control was an Easter egg,
but, her hiding places were never difficult enough
to stump Sherlock Holmes, her son.
He finds it, but earns an Oscar for his disappointment act
because she is unaware of his buried treasure,
the key to laughter and gratifying  pleasure;
Mother works in the den, son enjoys animated ecstasy,
volume so low, it’s almost suspicious, but all part
of the master plan, for when mother checks in,
he’s already changed the channel back to the king of boring.
Operation Remote Control, a weekly success,
now that’s old school.

Looking back, I’ve found the importance of my actions;
I strongly defied her idea and continually
expanded my realm of imagination and creativity.
The stealth tactics used proved triumphant as my mind's eye
clearly, continuously visits infinity.

Today's generation isn't as fortunate as I was;
they don't have Old School.
Saturday morning cartoons aren't the same,
they don't start until the sun's headed west anyway.
No longer do kids run to be crafty and secretive before
the dinosaurs arise from slumber.  They don’t even care
that the garbage invading their TVs and children’s minds
has even less value than our penny.

Scooby Doo, Duck Tales,
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Inspector Gadget
are the Beethoven of the cartoon world.
My classics truly are the French Revolution, the Civil War
and remember the Alamo.
Now that's old school.
Reminiscing about my days as a young'n. I loved the Saturday morning ritual!!

This poem is basically just about using metaphor. Nothing too spectacular... maybe a chuckle here and there would be nice :laughing:.

I entered this in a contest when I was in community college and took 3rd place.

HAHA. 10 year old ass! That's funny. *wipes tear from eye* Unfortunately, I'm from today's generation. But they were stil showing all those shows you mentioned until I turned... say 7? 8? Anyway, this is cool. :D
